Essential Tips

Fishing License

A recreational marine fishing license is required. Obtain it online through the Govern Balear website or at the Conselleria de Pesca in Ibiza city. Costs 15-30 EUR for 3 years. Charter companies handle all documentation.

Charter Costs

Half-day charters (4 people) range from 400-600 EUR. Full-day trips run around 900-1,650 EUR. Giant tuna charters start at 1,650 EUR. Captain, fuel, equipment, and bait are typically included.

What to Bring

High SPF sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, non-marking deck shoes, sea sickness medication, a light windbreaker for early mornings, and a towel. All fishing gear is provided by charters.

Regulations

Bluefin tuna fishing is strictly regulated in the Balearics. Mandatory minimum sizes and daily catch quotas must be respected. Marine reserve zones prohibit fishing. Your charter captain ensures compliance.

Best Technique

Coastal trolling at 6-7 knots with artificial lures is the most popular and effective method for tuna around Ibiza. Live bait fishing and jigging are also productive, especially near underwater structures.

Departure Ports

Main departure ports include Ibiza Town (Vila), Sant Antoni de Portmany, Santa Eularia, and Portinatx. Most charters depart at 7-8 AM. Book well in advance during peak season (June-August).
